The
Mersey Beatles
Play
for Duchess

On
4th April, The Mersey Beatles
played a special set in the 'Cavern Room' at the award winning
Beatles Story Museum, Albert Dock, Liverpool, for HRH Camilla,
The Duchess of Cornwall.
The
Duchess sat with a small entourage, as the boys performed three
iconic songs, 'Twist and Shout', 'I Want to Hold
Your Hand' and 'She Loves You', before heading
over to the stage to shake each band member by the hand and
saying, “Thank you, that was a wonderful performance.
You really took me back to my youth”.
The
Royal visit was part of ongoing events in Liverpool celebrating
the 50 years since Ringo Starr joined the Beatles. Her Royal
Highness was accompanied by MP Frank Field and was given a tour
of the museum by The Beatles Story's own Jerry Goldman. She
also unveiled a plaque commemorating the Beatles' 50th anniversary.
It
transpires that Camilla has been a lifelong Beatles fan &
saw the original group on more than one occasion. She even travelled
to Paris to see them play a famous set at The Olympia.
The
Duchess was smiling throughout The
Mersey Beatles performance, tapping her feet
and singing along... and, although she clapped her hands after
each song, she did not rattle her jewellery.

Due to our growing theatrical commitments and a busy schedule
in the UK and overseas, The Mersey Beatles step down as the
Cavern Club’s one and only resident band after 10 years
in the role. Our 344th performance proves to be an emotional
farewell. The Boys tell the audience, “It’s been
a real honour and an absolute privilege to have been The Cavern
Club residents”. The queue, outside, stretches down Mathew
Street, reminiscent of scenes from early Beatlemania in the
city.

Feb

The outcry from local fans over our decision to step down as
Cavern club residents prompts us to set up the all new “Get

at 38 Bowring Park Road, Liverpool L14 3NN.
“We

stage.
